TRAVELOG 042905 - another product to be proud of from the AwayTeam? |
ODII - 042905-050205 On Friday April 29th 2005, IS, WL, PK, and IS's FourRunner clandestinely visit the clubhouse for bicycle extraction shortly before the noon hour. SC(f) and the K-twins (KC and KK) in SC's truck followed suit shortly thereafter. Seasoned AwayTeam? members DX and TO slacked pretty much all day, picking up stuff here and there and fixing bikes, getting JA and KO through the clubhouse and off by early evening, meandering a little south nearly after all the Friday night Seattle-Tacoma traffic was subsiding.

Our destination was determined as the Know, problem being we didn't quite know that before hand. A little phone calling to the earlier team and we got the address, somewhere on Alberta between 20th and 21st, just down from Clown Town. We crossed a bridge or few in Frequest and got out and mounted up around 7th & Alberta. In hindsight, Joe's Place down the street was decided a cooler place, what with 40's of Bud and all. |
mount cycles:
DX-001, JA-Ekib Natas Reppohc,
KO-Eagle with the big-ass forks, TO-Malibu Beyott Chopper, TP-Picadilly Circus?
So we rolled on down Alberta sharing the street with the cars, old enough to choose not to wear a helmet, fast enough to make the lights you had to, marvelling in the flatness of Portland. And soon enough we reached the Know.
But as we rolled up, there was no pile of bikes, no parfait of parts and frames, no damn tallbikes, not a one. Quick phone calls confirmed our worst diagnosis, we had missed the launch.
Undaunted, drunkards made more phone calls to determine where the hell we were supposed to go. A staggering-by lady informed us it was her birthday, and when pumped for information, related that all the bikes left "about five minnuz ago" while pointing east. Data matched.
Roll roll roll back from whence we came. When we got to Martin Luther King Blvd, we all talked about which way to go and finally somebody had the means and gumption to call again. "Hang a left, go south" was all we needed to know. Well, actually, "Green sign" helped a lot.
Billy
Ray's Neighborhood Tavern Whew, finally. And there's the other half of the crew. It's kinda crowded, so we venture upstairs to find pinball.
|
But a Pub Crawl must crawl on, so that's what we did. Next stop was the Basement Pub. With a small area to work within, Babies and Zoobbombers alike were herded inside so as not to make noise in the street. This worked pretty well, as they were serving up the pabst, and even had a cool tap marked "H2O" next to a big stack of plastic glasses for the dehydrated. And a pinball machine...
SC was the first with quarters in the slot. Solid Gold challenged, was soundly trounced, and an almost proper 4-man game was played. WL was having a bad pinball night. |

A few things were discussed in the tight space in a small period of time. This led to disarray, and a split of the pack. Chunk and Zoobomb were fighting over providing floor-space and couches for the Babies. Chunk wanted to go to the waterfront way far west, while Zoobomb wanted to go to some water that was closer. Arguments were made for who had the closest beer store, where fleet vehicles were parked, where Colonel Summers was from there, who wanted to drink more beers, and who needed to get in some beauty rest. It was declared that Portlandia is located on 5th around Salmon or Washington (more on this later) and that the length of a Zoobomb from peak to MAX is 3 miles. And don't follow the wrong people, or just don't get lost...
So the scribe and the rest of the babies ('cepting JA and TO who ducked out) went to the duelling Zoobomb houses someteenth near Alberta with some drunken cyclists, but not before stopping for beers, and later to pee... which turned rather eventful.
calvin pissing image | Well, a pub crawl isn't always the best event for keeping yourself in check, your wits about you, and offensive behavior at a minimum. And taking a pee's a rather personal endeavor, and nobody (especially after a few pints) wants to be told how, where, or when with those same pints bearing down on a sensitive sphincter, so we all now it's kinda like somebody just pulls off with the "No, REALLY, I gotta pee..." and everybody figures to come to a stop suitably distant and out of ear- or eye-shot or at least the headlights of oncoming traffic, and joins right in if so moved. |
So, somebody pulled off just through the intersection of Fremont & Williams, ducked up behind haffa building
